British woman dies rescuing sons in Bahamas
Leanne Gregory, a 36-year-old woman from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, died in the Bahamas while attempting to rescue her two sons from a riptide. The family was on holiday celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary when the children were swept away while snorkeling off the coast of Bimini.
According to her husband, Nathan Gregory, both children were successfully rescued from the water, but Leanne was unable to save herself after being swept away by a current. Nathan described his wife as a hero, noting that she held onto one of their sons until he was rescued before a wave swept her away.
The family has since returned to the United Kingdom. Nathan Gregory has established a GoFundMe to support his children following the loss of his wife, whom he described as his childhood sweetheart of 22 years.
