Britney Spears claims original schoolgirl aesthetic in Instagram post
Britney Spears used an Instagram post on October 17 to claim she originated the schoolgirl aesthetic that has recently been adopted by younger performers. In her post, Spears described herself as the “original apple B school girl” who performed backflips and backhand springs, asserting that her early image was “real” compared to modern imitators.
The schoolgirl look became a signature visual for Spears following her 1998 debut single “…Baby One More Time,” directed by Nigel Dick and filmed at Venice High School. Spears noted that while it is “cool” that others use the look, she maintains her version was authentic.
Spears concluded her message by addressing critics, stating, “To all the girls who say I’m History… I’M PROPHECY.” She also expressed resilience against public hostility, noting that she is still “living, and dreaming.”
