Britney Spears has used Instagram to reflect on the psychological impact of her 13-year conservatorship, which ended in November 2021. In a series of posts featuring lingerie modeling, the 44-year-old singer described feeling ‘like a robot’ and a ‘machine’ due to the restrictive nature of the arrangement.
Spears detailed the emotional and physical distress caused by forced professional obligations. She claimed that she would suffer from asthma attacks and shaking if required to meet more than 10 people during meet-and-greet events. She further alleged that her father, Jamie Spears, would have her meet as many as 70 people despite her anxiety regarding large groups.
The singer noted that while she was once able to perform in front of large crowds, she has since changed significantly and expressed pride in having stopped the forced performances. She stated that the true damage to her ‘heart and soul’ caused by the conservatorship is still felt today.
