Britânia authorized to export watermelon, melon, and pumpkin

The municipality of Britânia, located in the Araguaia Valley region of Goiás, Brazil, has received official authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) to export fresh cucurbits, including watermelon, melon, and pumpkin.

This authorization, formalized through Ordinance SDA/Mapa No. 1.695, allows local producers to access international markets, including Mercosul partners such as Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, as well as the United Arab Emirates. To facilitate these exports, Britânia has been integrated into the Risk Mitigation System (SMR) to manage the fruit fly (Anastrepha grandis) pest.

Agrodefesa, the Goiás State Agricultural Defense Agency, provided technical support throughout the process, including sanitary inspections and monitoring. This milestone marks Britânia as the 20th municipality in Goiás to join the SMR for cucurbits, supporting the state's growing fruit production sector.
