Britt McHenry resigns from State Department after NBA game altercation

Britt McHenry, a press adviser for the U.S. State Department and former ESPN reporter, has resigned following a viral confrontation at a Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA game at Capital One Arena.

Footage obtained by TMZ shows McHenry throwing a drink at a spectator during the October 21st matchup. The altercation reportedly began after a group of men seated behind McHenry allegedly directed misogynistic comments and disparaging remarks toward model Winnie Harlow, the fiancée of Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma. Witnesses claim the fans threw a drink at McHenry first, prompting her retaliation.

As McHenry exited her seat, spectators reportedly booed her and threw objects, including rally towels. McHenry was seen arguing with arena security and, according to some reports, blowing kisses to the jeering crowd.

McHenry’s resignation follows a rapid series of professional shifts; she had reportedly been promoted to lead External Affairs and Press for Under Secretary Jacob Helberg’s team on the same day as the incident. Sources indicate she was forced to step down within 24 hours of the promotion. The State Department has declined to comment on the matter, citing it as an internal personnel issue.
