Brittany becomes top travel destination for French citizens
Brittany has become the preferred travel destination for French citizens for the first time, according to the Changing Traveller Report by SiteMinder. The survey, which included over 12,000 travelers across 14 countries, shows that 23% of French travelers intend to visit Brittany, surpassing the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region (22%) and Normandy (17%).
This shift is attributed to a desire for cooler climates, authenticity, and more human-scale accommodations following recent heatwaves and overcrowding in traditional seaside resorts. Data indicates a 90% surge in short-term rental listings in Brittany, with high demand for unique accommodations and boat rentals. Approximately 75% of French people plan to stay within the country this year, with many seeking more local and thoughtful travel experiences.
