Brittany’s Ille‑et‑Vilaine and Finistère Offer Scenic Hiking and Coastal Views

During the summer, Ilún and Mohea continue their series of eight guided walks across the Fougères area, with the latest hike leading to Niche Coucou in the commune of Beaucé, Ille‑et‑Vilaine. The route starts at the parking area beside the plan d’eau des Vertes Rives, includes a brief picnic, a fitness area, a walk along the Couesnon river, and a forested stretch that ends at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking Fougères, noted as a potential spot for night‑time star observation.

Finistère, the westernmost department of Brittany, derives its name from the ancient “Finisterre” concept of the world’s edge. The region’s coastline, called the Côte des Légendes, is characterized by dramatic cliffs, historic lighthouses, massive rounded granite blocks, and abundant oyster farms, reflecting a strong maritime identity distinct from the French capital’s influence.
