Brixham Fish Market expands solar power system
Brixham Fish Market, England’s most valuable fish market, has completed a two-stage expansion of its solar power system. The project, delivered by Bloom Renewables, added 119 new panels to the existing installation, bringing the total to 423 panels.
The expanded system is designed to offset the high energy costs required to run intensive facilities, such as refrigeration and an ice plant capable of producing up to 46 tonnes of ice daily. The upgrade is expected to save the market approximately £47,000 annually in energy bills and reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 60 tonnes.
Last year, the market saw approximately £77 million worth of fish landed and sold, supporting hundreds of jobs in fishing, processing, and logistics. The initial solar installation was completed in April 2019.
