Brčko District elections face voting irregularities in Bukvik

Elections are underway in the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with 77,217 voters registered on the electoral roll. According to the Election Commission, 30,599 voters are registered under the Republic of Srpska option, 46,618 under the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina option, and 9,687 have no specified option.

While some polling stations, such as the one in Donji Brezik where Mayor Siniša Milić voted, have opened on time and are utilizing new technologies, reports of irregularities have emerged in Bukvik. Ilija Jovičić, president of the Bukvik local community, stated that voters with Republic of Srpska citizenship were unable to vote because the polling station contained only duplicate ballots for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Jovičić noted that out of 403 registered voters in Bukvik, over 320 hold Republic of Srpska citizenship. He argued that the electoral process has been compromised and called for voting to be postponed by seven to 14 days to ensure all citizens can exercise their rights, noting that many residents had traveled from abroad to vote.
