Brčko District farmers face catastrophic soybean yields due to drought

Farmers in the Brčko District are facing catastrophic harvest results for soybeans due to prolonged drought and extreme temperatures. Local producer Mijo Blažević reports that soybean yields are at least 50 percent lower than expected, with some areas producing less than one ton per hectare. The lack of moisture during critical development phases prevented proper grain filling and maturation.

Concerns are now extending to the upcoming corn harvest. Farmers estimate that drought conditions may have halved corn yields on certain plots, potentially making it difficult to cover production costs. Additionally, the low quality of the grain poses a challenge for market placement, as current purchase prices are unlikely to compensate for the significant loss in volume.
