Brâncoveni Martyrs commemorated by Romanian Orthodox Church
On August 16, 2026, the Romanian Orthodox Church commemorated the Holy Brâncoveni Martyrs through various religious services and symbolic gestures across the Archdiocese of Târgoviște.
At the Brâncoveni Monastery in Olt, a commemorative service was held to honor the memory of those who chose martyrdom over renouncing their faith. Among the attendees was former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, who delivered a speech invoking the example of Saint Constantin Brâncoveanu as a model of faith and sacrifice for the Romanian people.
Throughout the Archdiocese of Târgoviște, Holy Liturgies were performed, and several places of worship were illuminated in red as a symbolic gesture dedicated to the martyrs. The Archdiocese used the occasion to reflect on the ongoing persecution of Christians globally and emphasized the importance of preserving national identity and religious values through cultural and editorial projects.
