Brno moves toward direct Brno‑Frankfurt flights with EU funding support

The city of Brno and the South Moravian Region are pursuing a direct air connection to Frankfurt am Main. The European Commission has approved public funding for the route, allowing the authorities to launch a tender for an airline operator. Brno and the region will each contribute up to €1.5 million per year, for a total possible support of €3 million annually over a three‑year contract.

Airlines can submit offers until 29 September 2026, and the plan envisions four round‑trip flights per week. If a carrier is selected, the service is expected to begin in spring 2027, linking the Czech south‑east with one of Europe’s major aviation hubs.

Councilor for transport Petr Kratochvíl (ODS) and regional governor Jan Grolich (KDU‑ČSL) said the connection will boost business, tourism and cultural exchange for the whole region.
