Brno Old Town Hall hosts exhibition of unpublished historical photographs

An exhibition titled ‘History, Which is Being Written Right Now’ is currently being held at the courtyard of the Old Town Hall in Brno. Running until the end of September, the free exhibition features previously unpublished archival photographs from the collections of the National Heritage Institute.

The photographs document the architectural and heritage transformations of one of Brno’s most significant monuments throughout the 20th century. The display highlights various stages of repair and conservation, allowing visitors to compare the building's current appearance with its state several decades ago.

The Old Town Hall is a landmark that incorporates four centuries of architectural styles, including early Gothic vaults from the 13th century, a Renaissance arcade, and Baroque and Rococo elements. The exhibition specifically notes the extensive restoration carried out between the late 1970s and 1980s, based on a project by architect Kamil Fuchs, which integrated postmodern elements into the historic structure.
