Brno T Arena construction costs rise to 7 billion CZK

The construction costs for the new T Arena, a multifunctional hall near the Brno exhibition center, have risen significantly. Current estimates place the cost at 5.75 billion CZK excluding VAT, which totals approximately 7 billion CZK including VAT. This is a substantial increase from the 4.44 billion CZK excluding VAT agreed upon in January 2023, and far exceeds the initial 2 billion CZK estimates discussed years ago.

Petr Kratochvíl, chairman of the municipal company Arena Brno, stated that the final price cannot yet be determined as construction changes and additional works are being finalized. The arena will be operated by the city-owned company Arena Brno after private firms declined to take on the management.

Local political figures have expressed concerns regarding the project's financial evolution and the potential for the municipal budget to cover operational losses. Václav Trojan, an ANO movement candidate, noted that while Brno deserves a modern space for sports and culture, the investment deficit and the gap between approved public support and actual needs remain significant risks.
