Brno Transport Company tenders for 40 trams and 40 trolleybuses

The Brno Transport Company (DPMB) has issued two major public tenders to modernize its fleet through the purchase of up to 40 bi-directional trams and 40 articulated battery-powered trolleybuses.

The tram tender seeks low-floor, bi-directional vehicles approximately 29 to 31 meters in length. The contract includes a mandatory delivery of 12 trams scheduled for 2028 and 2029, with an option for an additional 28 vehicles. The maximum budget for the trams is 3.6 billion CZK. These vehicles are intended to replace older T3, T6, and KT8 models, specifically supporting lines that require bi-directional capability or reversals instead of loops.

The trolleybus tender focuses on articulated models equipped with battery technology, allowing for a minimum range of 15 kilometers outside of overhead lines. The plan includes the delivery of 30 trolleybuses by 2029, with an option for 10 more. The maximum budget for this procurement is 800 million CZK. These vehicles are part of a strategy to replace certain bus routes with trolleybuses to align with the city’s clean mobility goals.

Both tenders exclude manufacturers located outside the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland.
