Broadband coverage varies across Spanish regions
Data from the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service reveals significant disparities in high-speed broadband coverage across Spain. Cantabria has achieved a 98.7% coverage rate for homes with at least 100 Mb capacity, ranking fourth among Spain's autonomous communities and exceeding the national average of 96.4%.
In contrast, Castilla y León reports a 91% coverage rate, placing the region at the bottom of the national ranking. Within Castilla y León, connectivity is uneven; Valladolid and Palencia exceed the national average with rates of 97.8% and 96.9% respectively, while Soria reports the lowest coverage in Spain at 73.6%.
Telecommunications operator Adamo, which has been active in these regions since 2017, notes that expanding fiber optic networks is a critical factor in combating rural depopulation by enabling remote work, online education, and telemedicine.
