Broadband providers expand fiber optic infrastructure
Several broadband providers are expanding fiber optic infrastructure and transitioning network technologies. Norwood Light Broadband, a division of the Norwood Light Department, has begun transitioning its network from a hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) system to a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in Norwood, Massachusetts. This upgrade aims to provide gigabit speeds to local residents and businesses, though the company will phase out traditional video services due to rising programming costs and the shift toward streaming.
Other regional developments include Dobson Fiber, which is investing millions to expand fiber internet in Cache, Oklahoma, with the capacity to support speeds up to 100 Gbps in the coming years. Additionally, Brightspeed Business Internet offers various fiber plans ranging from 200 Mbps to 8 Gbps, including Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) options for high-bandwidth requirements.
