Broadcom and Nvidia report massive growth driven by AI demand
The semiconductor industry is experiencing massive shifts driven by artificial intelligence demand. Broadcom reported record third-quarter revenue of $29.6 billion, an 86% year-over-year increase, with AI semiconductor revenue specifically surging 221% to $16.7 billion. CEO Hock Tan projected that AI-related revenue could reach approximately $230 billion by fiscal 2028.
Nvidia continues to show significant growth, reporting fiscal second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion, more than doubling from the previous year. Its data center business accounted for over 90% of total sales, with revenue increasing 117% year-over-year to $89 billion. Nvidia has also projected $108 billion in revenue for the current quarter.
Strategic investments are also expanding. Nvidia has backed a $125 million Series B round for Spanish photonics startup IPronics to advance optical switching technology. Additionally, Nvidia announced a $3.5 billion strategic investment in Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek to integrate AI capabilities into mobile and edge computing. Meanwhile, Vertiv is investing up to $2.6 billion to acquire Utility Innovations, aiming to address power supply bottlenecks in AI data centers.
