Broadcom and AMD see growth driven by AI chip demand

The semiconductor industry is experiencing significant shifts driven by artificial intelligence demand. Broadcom is gaining traction in the custom AI chip market, with OpenAI reportedly praising its Jalapeño chip for its energy efficiency and speed compared to Nvidia's offerings. Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue recently surged 143% year-over-year, contributing to a strong quarterly performance.

AMD is also seeing substantial growth, particularly in its data center segment, which reported a 107% increase in revenue to $6.7 billion. Analysts from Raymond James have upgraded AMD to a ‘Strong Buy’, citing the massive potential in the server CPU market, which is projected to reach over $200 billion by 2030 due to the rise of agentic AI. While some insiders have engaged in stock sales following recent rallies, institutional interest remains high as the company expands its AI chip portfolio with the Instinct MI450 series and EPYC CPUs.

Despite these growth drivers, the sector faces competitive pressures. Customers are increasingly developing in-house silicon, and market volatility remains a factor as investors weigh high valuations against long-term AI infrastructure needs.
