Brock Purdy earns praise for elite play and development

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is receiving praise from teammates and coaches for his performance at the start of the 2026 NFL season. Running back Christian McCaffrey highlighted Purdy’s ability to balance executing complex schemes with instinctive playmaking, noting his effective decision-making regarding when to scramble and when to trust the pocket.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan described Purdy’s recent training camp as his best yet. Purdy has attributed his development to intensive film study with quarterback coach Mick Lombardi, focusing on staying ahead of the chains by prioritizing completions and finding outlets rather than forcing difficult throws. Through the first two games of the season, Purdy has completed 80.4% of his passes for 492 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.
