Broken Dreams Vietnamese Restaurant Opens in Oakland

Broken Dreams, a fast‑casual eatery specializing in Vietnamese broken rice (cơm tấm), opened on August 10, 2026 at 1312 Broadway in Oakland’s San Antonio district. The restaurant was founded by chef Quynh Ngu Nguyen and her husband Geoffrey Deetz, former chef‑owner of the Temple Club. Its menu features flame‑grilled lemongrass prawns, chicken meatloaf, fried egg, broken rice, chili‑garlic fish sauce, vermicelli bowls and salads.

The same week also saw the soft opening of Angela’s Eatery, a modern Afghan restaurant on Webster Street in Alameda, and the new brick‑and‑mortar location of Carlyle’s Chicken Wings in Jack London Square, Oakland, which offers Cajun, BBQ sweet and Louisiana hot honey wing flavors.
