Broken Vein selected as Greece's official Oscar entry

The Greek Ministry of Culture has officially selected the film ‘Broken Vein’ (Spasmeni Fleva), directed by Giannis Economides, as Greece's submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

The decision followed a recommendation from a specialized thirteen-member committee. The committee described the film as narratively, artistically, and technically proficient, noting its ability to reinterpret patterns of ancient tragedy within a modern Greek setting, blending universal themes with local elements.

Director Giannis Economides expressed surprise and honor regarding the selection, noting that he had previously been skeptical about the film's suitability for Academy criteria. He remarked that the journey to this recognition has spanned 25 years and expressed hope that the film might reach the shortlist of the top 20 international films.
