Brokers integrate AI agents via Model Context Protocol

Financial brokerage firms are increasingly integrating AI agents into their platforms using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing users to connect AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor directly to their investment accounts.

Interactive Brokers has implemented a cautious approach where the AI assistant drafts stock and ETF orders, but the client must manually approve every transaction before it is executed. In contrast, Robinhood has introduced “Agentic Trading” in beta, which allows third-party AI agents to trade autonomously in dedicated accounts if the user provides permission. Robinhood’s system includes guardrails such as real-time alerts and the ability to pause or disable the agent instantly.

Freedom24 has also opened its Tradernet infrastructure to AI applications via MCP. This enables investors to use AI assistants to analyze portfolios, retrieve market data, and coordinate information across various connected applications, such as spreadsheets or messaging services. This technological shift moves brokerage interaction from manual navigation toward expressing intent, where AI coordinates the necessary data and tools to fulfill user requests.
