Polish food markets see rising butter and vegetable prices
The Polish food market is experiencing shifting price trends as summer ends. Butter prices have seen a sudden reversal after months of decline; the average price for a 200g block rose to 5.61 PLN in the first two weeks of September, a 13.1% increase from August. While retailers like Biedronka and Lidl are offering promotional prices as low as 2.49 PLN, analysts warn that rising production costs and seasonal demand could lead to further increases.
In the wholesale market at Bronisze, the transition to autumn is evident. While prices for tomatoes and raspberries remain stable or low, there is rising cost pressure on yellow peppers, certain cucumbers, and green beans. The fruit market is also transitioning, with summer varieties like peaches and certain apples declining in supply, while imports such as blueberries from Peru are beginning to appear.
Broader economic factors, including rising global grain prices and energy costs, continue to impact the dairy sector. Increased costs for fuel, fertilizers, and transport, alongside high gas prices in Europe, pose challenges for dairy producers and processors.
