Bronisze wholesale market sees rising domestic vegetable prices

The Bronisze wholesale market is experiencing significant price fluctuations in the fruit and vegetable sector. While the overall value of a standard basket of goods saw a slight year-on-year decrease of 1.21%, individual items show extreme volatility.

Domestic vegetable prices have risen by an average of 8.78%. Notable increases include iceberg lettuce, which doubled in price from 2.50 PLN to 5.00 PLN per unit, and red cabbage, which saw a sharp rise of approximately 85% due to increased demand from Western European wholesalers for cold storage.

Other rising costs include greenhouse tomatoes, which increased by 66.67%, and Hungarian plums, which rose by 66.67%. Conversely, imported fruit prices have dropped by over 15%, with significant price reductions seen in lemons (down 40%), imported plums (down 42.86%), and apricots (down 33.33%).

Market activity has also seen a seasonal slowdown at the start of the school year, as consumer spending shifts toward school supplies, impacting overall demand for fresh produce.
