Bronwen James convicted of sexual activity with teenage pupil

Bronwen James, a 30-year-old former physical education teacher, has been found guilty of sexual activity involving a 16-year-old male student at Bitterne Park School in Southampton. The conviction followed a trial at Winchester Crown Court, where jurors found her guilty of three counts of sexual activity with the pupil. She was acquitted of one additional count involving the same boy.

The prosecution detailed a pattern of grooming, noting that James used Snapchat to communicate with the student and engaged in flirtatious behavior in class. The court heard that she also provided the student with vapes hidden in his coursework. The relationship escalated to sexual encounters at her home, which occurred on several occasions.

In addition to the charges involving the teenage boy, James had previously pleaded guilty to multiple offenses involving two schoolgirls, aged 13 and 14, which included sexual communication and the making of indecent photographs. The Crown Prosecution Service described her actions as a ‘sustained pattern of predatory behaviour’. James is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for sentencing.
