Bronx car meet-up shooting leaves one dead and three injured

An 18-year-old man, Werling Mendez, died after being shot in the head during a chaotic car meet-up in the Bronx on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on East 233rd Street near Boston Road in Eastchester.

Authorities report that the violence erupted following the robbery of two women. During the confrontation, more than 60 shell casings were recovered at the scene. In addition to Mendez, three other people were struck by gunfire: a 22-year-old man was shot in the chest, and two women, aged 20 and 25, were hit in the feet. One of the women was reportedly delivering slushies for a local business when she was shot. All three survivors were hospitalized in stable condition.

Police noted that these gatherings, often fueled by social media trends, involve large numbers of modified vehicles performing reckless maneuvers and illegal street racing. Three suspects fled the scene in an Acura, and as of Monday, no arrests had been made.
