Bronx dogs rescued from squalid basement after abandonment
Two dogs, nicknamed Ren and Stimpy, were rescued from a squalid basement in a Bronx apartment building after being found in extreme neglect. The animals were discovered by a new building superintendent living in their own waste and suffering from severe medical issues, including open sores, infections, and infestations of maggots and fleas.
According to NYC Second Chance Rescue, the dogs were reportedly abandoned by the building’s former superintendent following a terminal cancer diagnosis. The rescue organization noted that one of the dogs was in a particularly critical state, with matted fur so severe that maggots had burrowed beneath the hair. Both dogs were transported to an emergency hospital for stabilization and are expected to face a long recovery process.
