Bronx man arrested for alleged murder of his mother

Bob Johnny Guzman Soto, 33, has been arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon following the death of his mother in the Bronx.

Authorities stated that Josefa Soto De Carmen, 57, was found unresponsive with trauma to her head and torso inside their shared apartment in Concourse Village on Friday. Police responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m., where EMS workers pronounced her dead.

Guzman Soto fled the scene after the incident but was apprehended on Tuesday after a passerby recognized him from surveillance footage released by the NYPD. He was arrested near West 170th Street and Edward L. Grant Highway. It remains unclear what weapon, if any, was used in the assault. Authorities noted that the suspect has no previous arrest record.
