On July 25, 2026, 12‑year‑old Jacob Freytes was fatally shot by stray gunfire outside the Wanda Deli Grocery on Elliott Place in the Mount Eden neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. Freytes, the son of retired NYPD sergeant Jesus Freytes, was riding his bicycle when a brawl erupted in front of the store.
