Bronx small businesses receive new grant initiative and investment

Small businesses in the Bronx are experiencing a period of uneven economic growth and renewed investment. In commercial corridors such as Third Avenue in The Hub, new restaurants, service businesses, and financial institutions are opening alongside established tenants. This momentum is supported by public-realm improvements like enhanced lighting and streetscape upgrades. However, other areas like Jerome Avenue continue to face structural challenges.

To support local entrepreneurs, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and Optimum Business have launched a grant initiative. The program offers $145,000 in total funding, consisting of 25 grants of $5,000 each and one $20,000 grand prize. To qualify, businesses must have a physical location in a served community, ten or fewer employees, and have been in operation for at least one year. Applications for the program open on August 10 and close on September 1.

As part of a broader trend, Bronx merchants are increasingly diversifying their revenue streams by integrating e-commerce, event programming, and service-based offerings to mitigate fluctuations in foot traffic.
