Bronx Zoo welcomes new female snow leopard cub

The Bronx Zoo has announced the birth of a female snow leopard cub, born on May 31, 2026. The cub is the offspring of parents Dari and Moutig and is currently exploring the Himalayan Highlands habitat at the zoo.

The zoo reports that the cub is healthy, has completed physical examinations, and has received routine vaccinations. With this new arrival, the total number of snow leopards at the Bronx Zoo has reached eight.

Snow leopards are classified as a vulnerable species, with an estimated population of 5,000 to 7,000 remaining in the wild in Asia. They face threats including habitat loss, declining prey numbers, poaching, and trade. The Bronx Zoo participates in cooperative breeding programs to support the conservation of the species.
