Brooke Rollins addresses rural concerns regarding artificial intelligence

Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins stated that the development of artificial intelligence must be approached with intentionality due to serious concerns expressed by rural Americans. Rollins noted that while winning the global AI race is essential to prevent being overtaken by China or other nations, the potential impact of the technology on the American way of life is “frightening.”

Rollins emphasized her commitment to listening to farmers regarding issues such as data centers and the broader implications of AI. While she expressed trust in President Donald Trump’s leadership to navigate these challenges, the President has characterized AI concerns as a “hoax,” suggesting that strong presidential leadership serves as sufficient oversight.

Attorney General Todd Blanche also dismissed AI fears, suggesting the timing of such concerns may be an attempt to influence midterm elections. These political stances contrast with warnings from some industry figures, including former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who suggested that AI development could become uncontrollable by the end of next year.
