Brisbane man charged with multiple counts of rape after Brookfield assault
A 32-year-old man from Raceview has been charged with multiple offenses, including six counts of rape, stalking, and assault, following a “horrific” attack on a woman in Brisbane’s western suburb of Brookfield.
The incident occurred on a Thursday morning near the Brookfield Road bridge. The victim, a woman in her 20s, was on a morning walk when she was allegedly assaulted and dragged into nearby bushes. She managed to escape by fleeing through dense bushland and across a creek toward the Brookfield Showgrounds, where she was able to call for assistance.
Police arrested the suspect a short distance from the scene on Moon Lane. Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham stated that the victim is being provided with the “utmost care” and noted that while the incident has shocked the local community, police believe it to be an isolated event. Increased patrols have been deployed in the area to ensure public safety.
