Brookfield-controlled Sol Agora targets Brazil's solar market
Sol Agora, a fintech controlled by Brookfield, is focusing on Brazil's distributed generation (GD) solar market, driven by rising electricity costs. The company has served nearly 90,000 customers and has granted over R$ 2.2 billion in credit since its inception in 2022.
Brazil's solar capacity has reached 35.9 gigawatts, with 3.47 million systems installed across homes and businesses. Despite legislative changes that reduced subsidies and high interest rates, the residential GD market remains resilient. The solar credit market is estimated to move approximately R$ 9 billion annually.
As the sector matures, the focus is shifting from capacity expansion to operation and maintenance (O&M). Industry experts note that proper maintenance is critical for long-term profitability, as issues like module soiling can reduce energy generation by more than 20%, and up to 50% in highly polluted environments.
