Brooklands Museum celebrates centenary of Britain’s first Grand Prix

Brooklands Museum marked the 100th anniversary of Britain’s first Grand Prix with a massive gathering of over 120 racing cars. The event featured vehicles spanning a century of motorsport history, representing more than 50 different marques.

To commemorate the original race held on August 7, 1926, the cars gathered at the historic Finishing Straight at 2:00 PM. The display included the Delage 15-S-8, the model used by winners Robert Sénéchal and Louis Wagner in 1926, alongside other legendary machines such as the Mercedes W125, the Alfa Romeo 158/159, the Tyrrell P34, and various McLaren models.

Former Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill attended the celebration. The event also included a recreation of the 1926 starting grid on the Members’ Banking. Brooklands, established in 1907 as the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit, transitioned to military aircraft production during World War II and ceased racing operations in 1939.
