Brooklyn Democratic leader faces resignation calls over antisemitic remarks

Brooklyn Democratic district leader Carmella Charrington is facing calls for resignation following comments in which she blamed ‘Zionists’ for a personal property dispute. During an interview with podcaster Raha Zein, Charrington linked her legal inheritance battle over a family brownstone in Bedford-Stuyvesant to activities in the West Bank.

Jewish leaders, including Mark Treyger, CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council, have condemned the remarks as antisemitic scapegoating. Treyger stated that Charrington has demonstrated she is ‘unfit for this position of public trust.’

This controversy follows previous actions by Charrington, who reportedly shared social media content promoting Henry Ford’s ‘The International Jew’ booklets, which contain false claims regarding Jewish control of business and media. Charrington remains a significant figure in local politics as a key vote in the selection of the next chair for the Kings County Democratic Party.
