Brooklyn hosts Caribbean heritage celebrations for Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago

Brooklyn is hosting a series of major Caribbean cultural celebrations this August, featuring large-scale parades and festivals honoring the heritage of Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.

Grenada Day NYC will take place at the South Shore High School Field in Canarsie. Organized by the Grenada Cultural Festival Group, the event celebrates the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique through live music, including soca, calypso, and steelpan, as well as traditional food and a parish tug-of-war battle.

Additionally, Brooklyn will host its first-ever Trinidad and Tobago Independence Day Parade on August 30. Presented by J’Ouvert International for Arts and Culture, the parade will travel along Flatbush Avenue toward Prospect Park. The event commemorates the nation's independence from Britain and features steelpan performances and cultural activities under the theme, “Our Culture. Our People. Our Freedom.”
