Brooklyn man arrested after ride-share dispute turns violent on NY Thruway

A ride-share dispute on the New York State Thruway (I-87) in Rockland County resulted in a stabbing and subsequent arrest. The incident occurred at the Suffern Tandem Lot in the town of Ramapo when a miscommunication regarding a drop-off location led to a confrontation between a 32-year-old ride-share operator and his passenger.

Police identified the suspect as Joel A. Guzman, a 32-year-old resident of Brooklyn. Following an altercation over payment, Guzman allegedly attacked the victim, a 32-year-old man from California, with a knife. The victim sustained non-life-threatening defensive lacerations to his arm and was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Guzman fled the scene but was later located by the MTA Police Department on the RFK Bridge in New York City. A knife was recovered from his vehicle. He has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. Guzman was arraigned in Ramapo Town Court and released on cash bail.
