Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets prepare for season opener

The Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets are set to begin their 2026-27 NBA seasons this Wednesday at the Barclays Center. The Nets enter the matchup following offseason acquisitions of Julius Randle and Michael Porter Jr., who are expected to lead the team's offensive efforts and playmaking.

The Hornets face a significant transition period after trading LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Naz Reid and draft capital. Charlotte will be playing without several key players for the opener, including Kon Knueppel (hamstring) and Coby White (calf). The franchise is looking to Brandon Miller, who recently signed a five-year, $209 million contract extension, to take on a primary leadership role.

Key storylines for the matchup include the development of the Nets' young point guard rotation and the battle for center minutes in Charlotte between Moussa Diabaté and rookie Hannes Steinbach.
