Brooklyn storms cause flooding at 770 Eastern Parkway

Torrential rain and powerful thunderstorms battered Brooklyn on Thursday evening, causing significant flooding in streets, basements, and businesses across the city. The intense downpour overwhelmed drainage systems, specifically impacting the 770 Eastern Parkway Bais Medrash in Crown Heights. Water entered the main shul and lower-level areas of the building.

In response to the flooding at 770, students moved religious texts and personal belongings to higher shelves and elevated surfaces to prevent water damage. Sanitation crews were mobilized to mop and clean the affected areas once the rain subsided. While flooding at the site has occurred during previous storms, management had recently implemented drainage improvements and repairs to mitigate such issues.

The National Weather Service issued Flash Flood Warnings for Brooklyn and Manhattan during the evening commute, with a Flood Watch remaining in effect through Friday morning. Officials warned that rainfall rates could reach two inches per hour, posing risks to underpasses, highways, and basement apartments.
