Brother of Pataz mayor assassinated in Trujillo

Homero Valdemar Armas Villalobos, the brother of the Pataz district mayor, was assassinated in Trujillo during the early hours of September 7. The attack occurred near a restaurant in the California urbanization of the Víctor Larco Herrera district. Witnesses reported hearing approximately six gunshots, and the victim sustained at least four bullet wounds. Despite attempts by bystanders to transport him to a clinic, he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations into the motive are ongoing. Administrative records from the Ministry of Energy and Mines reveal that Homero and his brother, Julio César Armas Villalobos, had previously faced legal disputes regarding mining activities. Both brothers had their registrations in the Integral Mining Formalization Registry (REINFO) revoked after the Mining Council determined their declared coordinates overlapped entirely with the 2020 mining plan of Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A.
