Brothers of Italy launches campaign against Islamic fundamentalism
Brothers of Italy (FdI), the party led by Giorgia Meloni, has launched a nationwide signature collection campaign titled ‘Nessuna resti nascosta’ (Let none remain hidden). Running until November 20, the campaign aims to support a legislative proposal presented to Parliament targeting ‘Islamic fundamentalism’.
The proposed measures include prohibiting full veils in all public spaces, banning virginity certificates, and implementing stricter controls and financial transparency for places of worship. The party also seeks the temporary closure of religious sites where ideas based on superiority or hatred are propagated.
Some of the campaign's focuses, such as addressing forced marriages, are already addressed by existing Italian penal code. The initiative follows a government decree prohibiting the burka and niqab in classrooms and is framed by the party as a response to uncontrolled immigration and a means to promote women's emancipation.
