Brothers with Rare Muscular Dystrophy Seek $1 Million for US Clinical Trial
Galileu Leilões in Rio Branco organized a live fundraising campaign to secure treatment for brothers Pedro and Thiago, aged 12 and younger, who have type 2C Muscular Dystrophy of the Shoulder. Partnered with auction houses across Brazil, the effort aims to raise roughly R$ 5.2 million (about US$ 1 million) to fund participation in the only available clinical trial in the United States. Their mother, Fabíola Albuquerque, stressed that the study accepts children only up to age 13, placing the family in a race against time.
The campaign, announced by Galileu co‑owner Marcelo Lemos, promises to allocate proceeds from auction sales during the ExpoAcre to the cause, with support from Líder Consórcios and Líder Seguros. The families hope donations will cover travel, medical expenses and trial costs so the brothers can receive the experimental treatment before the eligibility window closes.
