Broughton House secures £120,000 grant for veteran care
Broughton House, a veteran care village in Salford, has secured a £120,000 grant from the Army Benevolent Fund to support its residents. The funding is intended to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing for elderly veterans, many of whom are in their 80s and 90s and living with dementia or cognitive decline.
The grant will fund round-the-clock residential and nursing care for approximately 48 veterans over the next 12 months. Specific services supported by the funds include in-house physiotherapy, chiropody, wellbeing activities, and the work of a specialist Admiral Nurse. Additionally, the money will assist veterans living in the wider community through dementia support and navigation services.
Broughton House serves as the only veteran care home in the North West of England, providing a 64-bed facility that includes a specialist dementia unit and independent living facilities for family members. The funding aims to bridge the gap between the costs of providing high-quality care and the revenue received through personal contributions and local authority fees.
