Brovedani workers in Bari face uncertainty as factory locks are changed
Workers at the Brovedani plant in Bari, Italy, remain in a state of uncertainty following the company's decision to replace the locks and remote controls on the facility's automatic gates. While the chains that had blocked access since early August were removed, the new security measures have not alleviated fears among the 44 employees regarding potential job losses.
Union representatives from Fime Fiom reported that workers noticed movement within the facility, including the presence of employees from the Pordenone headquarters and the placement of new crates, which raised concerns about the potential removal of materials. Although some representatives were able to enter the site and confirm that operations remain halted as they were in August, tensions remain high because the company did not notify unions of these changes.
The plant, which relies on a single client, Hitachi, is facing significant difficulties due to the broader crisis in the European automotive sector. The company's last communication indicated a total absence of customer orders. As the scheduled reopening date of September 7 approaches, the future of production volumes and employment at the Bari site remains unclear.
