Brown bear damages apiary near Asenovgrad
A brown bear caused significant damage to an apiary in the village of Sini Vrah, within the Asenovgrad municipality, over a seven-night period from August 20 to August 26. The predator entered the property through holes dug beneath a wooden fence reinforced with cement posts and rolls.
Out of 54 bee colonies housed in 47 hives, 30 were damaged or overturned. The bear reportedly consumed approximately 150 kilograms of honey. Initial estimates place the total financial damage at over 5,300 euros.
To prevent further attacks, the remaining healthy hives have been relocated. A special commission inspected the site and has recommended that the owner receive financial compensation from the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in Plovdiv.
