BRS leader criticizes Telangana minority welfare spending

Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail has accused the Congress government and the AIMIM of failing to adequately address minority welfare in Telangana. Sohail alleged that the state government has only spent approximately 38.7% of the allocated funds for minority welfare schemes over the last two financial years, citing an expenditure of Rs 1,972.17 crore against an allocation of Rs 5,100.97 crore.

Sohail further noted that for the 2025-26 period, expenditure stood at roughly 35.5% of the allocation. He claimed these figures exclude salaries and establishment costs and argued that unspent funds hinder the implementation of essential welfare programs. Additionally, Sohail raised concerns regarding delayed scholarship and fee reimbursement payments for minority students.

While the Telangana government has agreed to hold an all-party meeting to discuss scholarship and fee reimbursement issues following Assembly discussions, Sohail criticized the AIMIM for failing to exert sustained political pressure on the government regarding these spending levels.
