Brtnice, Czech Republic restores historic bridge statues

Eight 18th‑century baroque statues from the stone bridge in Brtnice were removed for restoration. The works, created by sculptor David Lipart, include copies and originals of Saint John of Nepomuk, Saint Antonín Padúnský, Saint Juliana and the Pietà.

The town received a 1.1 million‑CZK grant from the Vysočina region and the heritage‑regeneration programme to fund the repairs, which are scheduled to be completed by October 2024. Mayor Jan Píbil confirmed the funding, and the restoration is being carried out by sculptor Jan Vodčánek at his studio in Kamenný Malíkov. Traffic on the bridge is being diverted to a new bypass while the works continue, with detours set up for residents and commuters.
