Bruce Blakeman criticizes Kathy Hochul in NY gubernatorial race
Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman has accused New York Governor Kathy Hochul of avoiding debates during the election cycle. Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, claimed that Hochul has declined invitations from media outlets such as PIX11 and CBS. In response, Hochul’s campaign stated that the governor intends to participate in at least one debate.
Blakeman also criticized Hochul regarding a controversial tax on luxury second homes and condos. The levy, which applies to non-primary residences valued over $5 million and condos over $1 million, was recently paused by a Staten Island judge via a temporary restraining order. Blakeman argued that the tax discourages investment in the state and suggested that Hochul is being influenced by Zohran Mamdani, whom he claimed is effectively leading the state Democratic Party. Hochul has attempted to distance herself from the rollout of the tax, stating that the administration had discussed the matter with the city in advance.
